Named for their ears — and it shows in everything else, too.

Papillon is French for "butterfly," for the breed's namesake fringed, upright ears. It's a fitting name for a dog whose whole personality is just as showy: quick, clever, endlessly curious, and entirely unaware of how small it actually is.

Szzan Kennel's Papillons began in 1998 with a single dog and a fascination with how much presence could fit into two to three kilograms. Every litter since has been bred for that same combination — a butterfly-pretty little dog with a genuinely biddable, people-focused temperament underneath.
